The 1980's
1980
- An estate office was built for the use of the Society's Managing Agents.
1981
- A Treasurer was appointed, being the Society's first salaried staff.
- Kinross Mews completed.
1983
- The Society establishes its own Staff complement and appoints its first Director/Secretary.
1984
- An extension to the office is planned which provides accommodation for 7 staff.
- The Terms of Reference for Sub Committees were more properly established.
1985
- The Society's first Tenant Handbook is published.
- Housing Association grant first obtained, for commencement of improvements and modernisation to Eastfield, No's 81-100.
1986
- Eastfield modernisation continues.
1987
- Start of Eastfield modernisation, phase 2, No's 72-80.
- The Society agrees the purchase of an area of land in Water Street for later development.
1988
- Eastfield, phase 3 modernisation, a further 9 properties improved.
- Plans approved for an extension to the Society's office premises.
- The first edition of Newsround a publication with contributions from the Tenants Association for all Tenants.
- The first meeting of the Tenants Discussion Group (a meeting of Tenants Association representatives and Society Staff) was held.
1989
- Eastfield, phase 4, modernisation continues No's 45-62.
- Lilley Close development commences.
- Modernisation of Fallowfield houses commences, the Society itself funds the improvements to 6 properties.
- The Housing Act introduces Assured Tenancies.
- Committee establish a rent setting policy and Assured rents.
- With the introduction of private finance, the Society agrees a £2m mortgage with Cambridge Building Society.
- The Society purchases a specialist computer package to cover housing management and maintenance.
- A Development subcommittee was formed.
